Man forced to undergo surgery after a bullmastiff dog bit him 'where no man would ever want it to happen'

A Perth man was rushed to hospital with a severe injury in an unfortunate place after a rogue dog attack during his daily walk.

Craig Middleton took his two-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Indy, to Bonnie Doon Park in Connolly, north of Perth, on Saturday when they came by an aggressive Bullmastiff.

As Ive picked my dog up to get it away from it, it went and bit me, he told 7News.

Its bit me in a spot where no man would ever want it to happen.

Its one of the worst injuries ever.

Mr Middleton was left with serious bite wounds and had to undergo surgery at Royal Perth Hospital.

The 42-year-old said the mastiffs owner took off without stopping to help him.

Youve gotta think about whats happened to the person its attacked, he said.

For the last 15 years Ive had dogs and walked them down near the park and never had anything like this.

The City of Joondalup was informed of the dog attack and asked for anyone who might have seen the incident to come forward.

The City takes all dog attack reports seriously and will investigate the incident as a matter of priority, council CEO James Pearson said.

Any witnesses with information about the incident were encouraged to contact field officers on 9400 4000.
