Tourists ran away in terror after a man armed with a huge blade stormed through the streets of Barcelona – before allegedly attacking another person in the head.
Footage posted on social media shows the knifeman charging at people in the popular tourist hotspot, as screams can be heard ringing out in the background.
At one point, the man can be seen facing one of the onlookers who was filming the incident on his phone.
The horror unfolded in the gothic streets around Placa de Sant Jaume in Barcelonas historic centre at around 7pm on Tuesday.
Screaming tourists and locals can be seen fleeing the area as the man charges through a narrow alleyway with a sharp blade.
He then runs into a square packed with the restaurants and shops before the footage ends.
Local media has reported the suspect attacked another person in the head on Carrer del Regomir, close to the seafront. The victim did not suffer serious injuries.

Police have arrested a central European man in connection with the incident, according to Spanish news outlet El Caso.
The suspect is believed to have been suffering from mental health problems and an investigation has been launched.
The motive behind the alleged attack remains unclear.
