A man has life-threatening injuries after a BMW crashed this morning near a central London landmark, causing streets to be closed off.
Emergency services blue-lighted to a Piccadilly Circus roundabout at around 5.25am where a car had overturned near the iconic Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain.
Photos show police tape sealing off roads and the crash scene where the heavily damaged black BMW is seen on its roof.
London Ambulance paramedics arrived within minutes of receiving a 999 call, with a 22-year-old man being rushed to a major trauma centre.
Another male, also aged 22, has also been taken to a hospital. His condition is not believed to be life-threatening.
One witness said the car had seemed to have driven straight into the fountain.
Writing on X, they said: Roads leading to and away from it seem to be closed off by tape.

Photos show the car resting near to the steps of the Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain by the Criterion Theatre.
Debris is scattered over the pavement, with a smashed lamppost dismantled on the floor.
The fountain, more popularly known as Eros, which has the winged Greek god of requited love Anteros on top, does not appear to be damaged.
A Met Police spokesperson said: At 05:28hrs on Sunday, 29 June police were called to Piccadilly Circus following a single vehicle road traffic collision.
A black BMW had overturned, ending up next to the Eros fountain.
Officers attended with London Ambulance Service paramedics and the London Fire Brigade.
Two men, both aged 22 and both occupants of the vehicle, were taken to hospital.
One of the men is in a life threatening condition. The other mans injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
No pedestrians were injured and no other vehicles are believed to be involved. There are road closures in place around Piccadilly Circus.
We recognise the disruption this will cause. We will look to remove these at the earliest opportunity but only when we have carried out the work required to investigate this serious incident.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson told MailOnline: We were called at 5.25am today (29 June) to reports of a road traffic collision on Piccadilly, W1J.
We sent a number of resources, including ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and members of our hazardous area response team (HART). We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from Londons Air Ambulance.
Our first paramedic arrived on scene in less than four minutes.
We treated two people. We took one patient to a major trauma centre and the other patient to a local hospital.
